Forest Kindergarten Leader
Hamilton Forest School Forest School is a play-based, all-weather outdoor elementary program, following the philosophies of true play-based, inquiry-based and child-led learning in Nature.
​
We are looking for motivated individuals to help advance the forest school vision in Hamilton by delivering our programs.
​
Qualifications:

Indigenous ancestry and possessing traditional knowledge of the land an asset.

Early Childhood Education Diploma, Bachelor of Education degree (primary-junior) or experience working in the childcare or education fields.

Outdoor loving ECE or newly graduated student looking for experience working in the childcare or education fields.

Current First Aid with CPR-C an asset.

Capable of performing teaching duties with enthusiasm regardless of the weather (snow, sleet, rain, heat, bugs) including the ability to walk distances and over uneven terrain, carry a backpack and supplies.

Understanding of emergent, child-centered, and inquiry-based learning.

Experience with or interest in learning outdoor skills including knot tying, shelter building, self-care and appropriate clothing, interacting with local wildlife.

Familiar with theories around the importance of risky play and risk reduction approaches.

Knowledge relating to local flora and fauna, natural history, and wild edibles considered an asset.

​Possessing qualifications as a Forest School practitioner is viewed as a valuable advantage.
Description/Responsibilities
As a forest leader you will be responsible for ensuring the physical and emotional safety of children as they play in a variety of settings including close proximity to water and streams.
​
You will co-create among a community of learners who treat each other with respect, compassion and encourage problem solving.
​
Working closely with a co-educator you will prepare, plan, and co-create activities and projects utilizing natural materials. As well as prepare daily learning materials.
​
You will need to communicate effectively with parents in person, by phone or email and be willing to attend staff training, educator meetings, and Forest School related activities.
​
